mend
A paper quilt collection to uplift and inspire
inspiration for Mend
It’s a time of reflection and healing. As our world slowly opens up again, we may wonder, “what got us through?”
Mend began as a response to that question, and also as a matter of pandemic practicality. I wanted to make art and I needed to use materials I had on hand in the studio. I adopted the "waste not, want not" adage that has served generations of thrifty women well.
I thought about women during hard times – the Dust Bowl, the Depression, and WWII. Women like my Mom who saved everything. I thought about groups of quilters that gathered to stitch, talk, and trade tips. What were their values? What got them through?

The collages in Mend were created using what I had in the studio. Scraps of cyanotypes, ecoprints, rust prints, drawings and paintings were collected, selected, and thoughtfully pieced together to create one-of-a-kind paper quilts. Each paper “patch” was hand printed or painted.
The collection features harmonious, earthy, and soothing colors: teal, aqua, gold, rust, and ivory. Look closely and you'll see traces of the natural world in the patches. Each collage is a unique work of art, handmade with love and care.
